Runner's Knee Brace

Runner's knee brace or strap:

A Runner's Knee strap provides a knee stabilization and kneecap support. You can also use a full Runners knee brace with compression to reduce and prevent swelling or pain, related to Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome.

What is Runner's Knee?

Runner's knee or Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome is a very common injury among people who bend the knee very often. Per example, in activities like: running, jumping, biking, cycling; or professional tasks requiring lot of kneeling and sitting. Women are more exposed to Runner's Knee injuries than men, for the simple reason that Women have less thighs muscles to support knee, and to amortize increasing pressure on knees.

Runner's knee is a generic term used for various knee injuries or patella pain types. These kneecap injuries have in common the pain around or below the patella, at the front of the knee. In general, Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome, among other things, can be related to one of the following knee injuries: Chondromalacia patella, Anterior knee pain, or other patella pain.

Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome: causes

Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome causes are:

  1. Overuse and increasing stress on the knee: per example in sports like Running, Basketball, Baseball, Soccer, Football or Biking.
  2. Malalignment of the Patella: caused by a misalignment of leg bones or weakness in thigh muscles.

Symptoms:

  • Runner's knee patients feel pain around the kneecap.
  • Knee pain while doing activities involving running, kneeling, jumping or climbing stairs (or descending stairs).
  • Swelling at the knee front.

Runner's knee treatment:

Treatment (mild to moderate levels): take some rest to unload stress on your knees, apply ice on inflammation spots; use a compression Runner's knee brace or knee strap to stabilize and to heal swollen patella.
