Why is there a need to wear a post-operative knee brace after surgery?

Depending on the type of knee injury, knee healing can take weeks or even months after surgery. During recovery, hinged post-operative knee brace acts more than a knee splint to patients, because it helps to stabilize and to protect the knee.

In other words, a postoperative knee support helps control the motion of your knee joint so that it does not move in the wrong direction. It also helps to unload pressure on fractured knee; or operated ligaments, tendons, patella or meniscus.

How to wear this post-op knee brace?

It is important to know how to properly wear this postoperative knee brace in order to use it properly and ensure faster recovery after knee surgery:

  1. Step 1 - Laying the patient on the bed: allow the patient to lie flat on the bed with their knee fully extended.
  2. Step 2 - Fitting the brace: unfasten the straps of the knee splint before placing it underneath the leg. Align the hinges with the kneecap and the midline section of the leg. Remember to put the black side bars just along the middle of the leg.
  3. Step 3 - Securing the strap: fasten the strap of this knee immobilizer below and above the knee before fastening the other two straps.

How to know if you have fastened it properly?

The hinges of this post op knee brace should be at either side of the knee and the bars should be lying on the midline section of the leg. If not, you may easily pull it away from the frame for it to be loosened or tightened. Most importantly, the straps should be at the front for easy access and adjustment.

How to remove?

To remove the knee support, simply open all the straps to remove the knee from it.
