LCL or MCL Knee brace for Collateral ligaments injury are used to protect knee joint and to prevent ligament sprain or tear; while playing sports like Soccer, Basketball, Football, Hockey or Volleyball. They can also be used to stabilize your knee joint following a ligament tear. Our knee has two Collateral Ligaments: the MCL (Medial Collateral Ligament) and LCL (Medial Collateral Ligament). Actually, the choice of the right MCL brace for your torn MCL (or LCL) would depend on your tear severity, and which of these two ligaments is injured
Our knee joint is stabilized by four ligaments: two Cruciate ligaments (ACL and PCL) and two Collateral ligaments (MCL and LCL). Collateral Ligaments are located on both sides of the knee joint: Medial Collateral Ligament (or Inside Collateral Ligament) is positioned at the inner side, and the Lateral Collateral Ligament is located at the outer side of your knee.
ACL and PCL ligaments control front to back movement and vice versa, while MCL and LCL knee ligaments are responsible to secure side to side movements.
Torn MCL may happen more often than a torn LCL. Most probably, when it occurs, a MCL tear is accompanied often by a Meniscus tear. Using a knee brace for MCL or LCL knee ligaments for sports, would help to prevent sprains. LCL and MCL Knee braces are also used to recover from a torn Medial Collateral Ligament or Lateral Collateral Ligament.
