Ankle support for acute ankle pain: Grade 3 injury
An ankle support for grade 3 severe ankle injury, or acute ankle pain, is made with rigid stabilizing panels, stays or hinges. An ankle ligament tear, fractured ankle, ankle sprains or ankle strain; are all considered as severe injuries where a rigid or a hinged ankle brace are needed.
What type of ankle brace you would need for grade 3 ankle sprains?
Below a brief description of each type of ankle brace to be used for a sprained ankle:
Ankle support with stays: is available in flexible or rigid side stabilizing stays.
Hinged ankle braces: they have stabilizing hinges on both sides, to relieve pain related to ankle sprains, and to help getting a faster healing.
Stirrup ankle support: this type provides the higher ankle support level, excluding of course the air cast walking boot. Stirrup ankle brace has two stabilizing panels on each side. For severe sprained ankle, it is a good solution.
Air cast boot: this ankle support is ideal for an acute ankle sprain, an ankle instability, a broken ankle or an ankle with stress fracture.
